When a payment fails

Updated 15 July 2026 · 1 min read

What past due means, how to fix it in two minutes, and what happens if it stays unpaid.

Cards expire and banks decline — it happens to every studio eventually. Here's the sequence, so nothing surprises you.

What happens

When a renewal charge fails, your studio is marked past due. Nothing is deleted and your day-to-day keeps working — this is a flag, not a lock.

Stripe (our billing processor) retries the charge automatically over the following days, and you'll get an email about the failure with a link to fix it.

Fixing it

Open Settings → Plan & billing → Manage billing and update your card in the billing portal. The retry then clears it — usually within the day. If you want it resolved instantly, the portal can also pay the open invoice directly.

If it stays unpaid

A studio that stays past due for an extended stretch can be suspended — client-facing pages and sending pause until the balance clears. We'd far rather not: you'll hear from us before that point.

Changing banks? Update the card before the old one closes — it's two minutes in the portal and avoids the whole dance.
